In the first place, a survey was conducted to find out how children got to school. A parent kindly collated all these resuts. In the meantime, in school, the children placed a cross on a map to show where they live. Following discussions, several parents then opted to share lifts or to pay to put their child on one of the school buses. |

Having gained a substantial award for completing the School Travel Plan, we were able to provide a shelter for parents and minders to wait in while "rounding up" children after school. The shelter, of course, provides a great facility for the children at playtimes and shelter from the sun.
Having gained a further award for completing the silver stage of the Travel Plan in 2007, plans are now afoot to provide a bike shelter. |
| Walk the World Initiative |
SCC Transport Department annually promote a 'Walk to School' week but as this is not feasible in rural schools situated down tiny lanes, the challenge was to devise a 'Walk the World' week. Class 3 had been studying the River Severn and comparing its length to other rivers around the world. For 'Walk the World' week, they decided to map out a different river each day of the week on the playground and invited the rest of the school to walk along it.
The exercise involved a lot of preparatory work on proportion. |

The challenge for 2007 was to incorporate nature study. First of all the children had to list the flowers, birds and other animals they saw coming to school by car or bus. We then took the children out for walks so they could observe closely all they could see, hear and see. They really appreciated the difference and compiled log lists! During the same week, several children and members of staff rode their bikes to school. |
